DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win on Thursday over the University of Minnesota Morris in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinals. This makes 10 UMAC tournament games in a row (and four straight games this season) that CSS has not allowed a goal.
The Action
The first goal came early from Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS), her eighth of the season, with the assist going to Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS). This made the score 1-0 in favor of the Saints with only eight minutes gone in the game. The Cougars held their ground for the rest of the half, despite more than one scoring opportunity from the Saints, and the game went into halftime with the Saints up by one.
The second half saw scoring in the first 10 minutes as well. Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS), unassisted, caught up with a loose ball and found the back of the net for the Saints for her 22nd goal of the season. The goal put the score at 2-0 in the 54th minute of the game.Â
The third and final goal of the game came on a Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) header for her 11th goal of the season. She was assisted on the play by Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) to put the Saints up 3-0 with 20 minutes left to play. Neither team could get past the keeper in the remaining time, however, and the game ended with the Saints victorious by a margin of three goals.
Notable Performances
The three goals scorers - Dixon, Rancour, and T. Olson - have teamed up in four consecutive games to score a goal a piece, helping the Saints keep their four game winning streak alive. Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) was in goal for CSS, and didn't allow a single goal out of the five shots she faced.
For the Cougars, Megan Tschida was in the net. She made eight saves on the 11 shots she faced.
