LA CROSSE, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team allowed two first half goals and that was the difference in a 2-0 loss to No. 15 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday.
The Action
La Crosse put a couple of shots on goal in the opening six minutes of the game, but
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) turned them away. The Eagles (18-1-3) then had back-to-back corner kicks and converted on the second attempt when Tori Barnhart scored her first goal of the season in the 19
th minute to make it 1-0.
The Saints got their first shot attempt in the 30
th minute when
Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) sent the ball wide of the goal. CSS then got an unfortunate bounce in the 40
th minute when a La Crosse shot was blocked and went to Rachel Rogahn, who buried it to make it 2-0. That was the score at the half with the Eagles out-shooting the Saints 18-2.
CSS had its first shot on goal in the 59
th minute when
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS)'s attempt was stopped by the Eagle keeper.
Kailee Katt (Esko, Minn./Esko HS (St. Catherine)) put a ball on net in the 78
th minute, but that too was denied. That was all the Saints could muster as La Crosse advanced with a 2-0 victory.
Notable Performances
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) made eight saves in the loss for the Saints. Lily Brock stopped both shots she faced to earn the shutout. Zeis had two of St. Scholastica's five shots.
End of Season
The Saints finished with a 13-7-3 record and made the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 11 years. CSS will say goodbye to seniors
