DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – In an evenly matched game through regulation, the St. Scholastica women's soccer team saw an Augsburg University shot land in the net in the 98
th minute to give the Auggies the 1-0 overtime win Thursday at Saints Field.
The Action
The first 45 minutes saw very few scoring chances for either team. The Auggies out-shot the Saints 3-1, but only three total shots were on target.
CSS put on the pressure in the second half and
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) had the closest scoring opportunity when her shot from the left side of the net struck the crossbar. The Auggies put a couple of shots on CSS goalkeeper
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) in the final 10 minutes, but after regulation the game remained scoreless.
In overtime, the field started to tilt in favor of the Auggies. Natalie Lessert would have a free kick in the 98
th minute that would hit the crossbar and Rudolph followed up with a great save off the carom. However, with the ball still in play the ball found its way back to Lessert, who struck it again from about 30 yards out and this time it got over Rudolph and under the crossbar for the game-winning goal.
Notable Performances
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS),
Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS),
Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) and Rouillard all had shots on goal for the Saints. Rudolph made eight saves.
Lessert had four shots on goal and the game-winner. Marissa Guillou had four saves for the victory.
