DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team was victorious 9-0 against North Central University (Minn.) in a conference game at Saints Field Wednesday afternoon. The Saints have shut out the Rams in 13 of the previous 15 meetings.
First Half
Both teams were evenly matched the first nine minutes of the game, with neither team shooting on goal. This all changed with the first shot on goal for the Saints at the nine minute mark.
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) passed to
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS), giving Dixon the chance to shoot on the wide open net. Dixon's first goal of the game and her fifth of the season put St. Scholastica ahead early at 1-0.
The Rams were able to shut down the Saints from getting any more goals until 30 minutes into the half. Rancour weaved through a few defenders to score unassisted, strengthening the Saints lead to 2-0. Two minutes later, Dixon was able to play off this momentum, with
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) and Rancour passing to Dixon for a breakaway goal.
Now up 3-0, CSS fought to get one more goal before the half ended.
Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) helped accomplish this with her first assist of her college career by passing to Rancour. Rancour's header buzzed by the NCU goalie right before the buzzer went off to signal the first half was over.
The Saints were up 4-0 going into the second half, showing no signs of stopping. The Rams had one shot on goal this period, compared to St. Scholastica's seven.
Second Half
NCU got a quick shot on goal three minutes into starting the half. Scholastica's counterbalanced that shot with their first shot this period by scoring a goal. Rancour was assisted by
Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) for a shot on the wide open net.
Rancour's hat trick goal happened five minutes into this half, putting the score at 5-0.
Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) quickly rebounded off of this energy, and a minute later, scored off an assist from Rancour. Olson's ninth goal of the season put the Saints ahead 6-0.
The Rams were able to shut down the Saints for the next 10 minutes but after a few substitutions from the Saints, Rouillard was able to beat the keeper for another goal. Rouillard goal happened about roughly halfway through this half to propel CSS to a 7-0 lead.
Four minutes later,
Kadie Mattson (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) and
Lexie DeWall (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Morningside)) assisted to Rancour. This was Rancour's fourth goal of the game and her 20th of the season. This monumental goal for Rancour fortified Scholastica's lead to 8-0.
CSS quickly scored again three minutes later, with 20 minutes left to go in the half.
Emily Thoreson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the first goal of her career, with the assists coming from Rouillard and DeWall. Up 9-0, the Saints pushed hard to get another goal, but were only able to get one more shot on goal before the game ended. With the sound of the last whistle, the game ended with a score of 9-0 in favor of St. Scholastica.
Rancour led the Saints with seven shots on goal. Dixon had four while Rouillard had three. St. Scholastica goalkeeper
