DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team held Crown College to two points in the first quarter and never looked back, defeating the Storm 64-33 on Friday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
Saints in Control
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) drained back-to-back 3-pointers and
Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) connected on a jumper to give the Saints an early 8-0 lead. Following a Crown layup, the Saints ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 16-2 after the first period. The Storm were 1-for-14 from the field in the first quarter.
St. Scholastica then scored the first five points of the second quarter to lead 21-2 with seven minutes left in the half. Crown would finally get some offense going before halftime, out-scoring the Saints 9-7 as CSS led 28-11 at the break.
The margin hung around 20 for much of the second half, until the Saints closed the game on a 12-0 run to win by a final of 64-33.

Rachel Weyenberg (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) netted a career-high 14 points off the bench.
Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) also added 14 points. Walther and
Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) each added 11 points. VanKempen also collected four blocks and four steals. Cieluch led the team with five assists.
Top Performances for the Opponent
Damonyka Roberts led the Storm (0-15, 0-7 UMAC) with six points. Andrea Besa grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
