csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team avenged an overtime loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stout last season with a 2-1 OT victory over the Blue Devils on Friday to open its season at the Cobber Classic.
Stout struck first in the 10
th minute when Sydney Kasper beat the goalkeeper. The Saints responded 10 minutes later when
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS ) scored off a corner to make it 1-1.
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) had the assist.
It remained 1-1 after 90 minutes of regulation, which sent the contest to overtime. It took only two minutes and 28 seconds into the first overtime session to find a winner as
Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) put the ball in the net to give the Saints the 2-1 victory. Rancour and
Hailey Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Two Harbors HS ) had the assists.
In her first collegiate start, Duluth East's
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth) ) made four saves to earn the victory. The Saints finished with seven shots on goal, compared to five for the Blue Devils.
