DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's hockey team took care of Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday winning 5-1, completing a two-game series sweep and completing the regular season on a high note.
First Period Domination:
The first goal of the game came from the Saints' Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)), assisted Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)), to take advantage of a powerplay to bring the score to 1-0.
CSS commanded this period, with the Saints totaling 14 shots compared to Finlandia's two.
Second Period Single Goal:
The only goal of this period came with two minutes remaining, with St. Scholastica's Anja Kadijevic (Zagreb, Croatia/General HS (Lindenwood)) getting the assist from Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)) to make the score 2-0 going into the third.
High Scoring Third Period:
Four goals were scored in a span of five minutes, with about seven minutes remaining. St. Scholastica's Lindsey Wright (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS (Team Alaska U19)), with help from Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)), would get her first goal of the season, putting the Saints up 3-0. Goaltending:
The Lions' Breanna Merriam saved 33-of-37 shots in the 53 minutes she played. Finlandia would then put in Taylor Gustafson for the last seven minutes of play, who would go on to save 7-of-8 shots faced.
