MOORHEAD, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell to Concordia College-Moorhead 60-47 Tuesday night at the Memorial Auditorium.

The Action
Concordia got on the board first with a good layup, putting them ahead 2-0. Mel Weisbrick (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Hibbing CC)) was able to put the Saints on the board and bring the game to a 2-2 tie with a jump shot. Concordia then scored the next seven points to take a 9-2 lead midway through the first quarter. St. Scholastica got within after a Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) jumper, but railed 14-10 after the first period.

The Saints got within two a couple of times in the second quarter, but the Cobbers went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead before the break. Concordia went into halftime with a 31-20 advantage.

St. Scholastica responded in the third quarter and closed the period out strong with a 7-0 run to once again get the margin down to two. However, the Cobbers hit a 3-pointer at the end of the quarter to take a 37-32 lead into the final period. 

The Saints kept within striking distance for the first couple of minutes of the fourth quarter. However, a three-point play followed by a jumper by the Cobbers extended the lead back to eight. Concordia used a 14-4 run tp pull away and win by a final of 60-47.

Top Performers
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) netted the most points, with 10. Weisbrick had seven points, while Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) and Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) both scored six points. For rebounds, Vankempen and Weisbrick led the team with six. Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had a total of four rebounds. With assisting, Cieluch aided her teammates three times. Brannen and Emelia Miner (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) assisted twice.

The Saints (0-3) host their first game at home against Saint Mary's University on Saturday. Game time is at 3 p.m.
