Volleyball Splits in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday in Eau Claire, falling to No. 24 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in four sets, but responding to beat Carroll University (Wis.) in five sets.
 
#24 UW-Eau Claire 3, CSS 1
The Saints opened with the host, UW-Eau Claire, and after splitting the first two sets with the 24th-ranked Blugolds, CSS fell in four by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-29 and 25-17.
 
Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) led the Saints with 11 kills, Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) added eight kills. Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) recorded a team-high 16 assists with Emily Kessler (Grand Rapids, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) adding 13 assists. Alex Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) led the team with 15 digs.
 
CSS 3, Carroll 2
The Saints were able to the get the five-set monkey off their backs to finish up play on the weekend, defeating Carroll University in five sets by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-13.
 
Belden again led the Saints with 13 kills. Elvehjem added nine kills, while Nikki Kienzle (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Morgan Lohmiller (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) each recorded seven kills.
 
Kessler had 23 assists with Austvold chipping in 19 assists. Barsody recorded 30 digs and Austvold added 15 digs.
 
The Pioneers registered 17 blocks in the match and had 10 kills in the fifth set, but also had seven errors in the deciding set.
