ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team cruised over Crown College Saturday afternoon in a 45-0 shutout victory for its third straight UMAC win.
First Half The Saints came out swinging in the first quarter scoring on its first two possessions. The first score came when quarterback
Dakota Paulson (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie HS) completed a 31 yard strike to
Preston Robinson (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) to put CSS up 7-0 after the point after by
Donovan Blatz (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS).
The second touchdown of the first quarter came again at the hands of Robinson, this time on the ground, from two yards out, and less than five minutes into the game CSS had propelled themselves to a 13-0.
After a
Brady Fish (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS ) interception and two forced punts by the CSS defense, the Saints would strike again in the second quarter.
Mitch Ejnik (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer HS ) took a poor punt by Crown and returned it 27 yards for the third score of the game putting St. Scholastica in front 20-0 early in the second quarter.
The Saints would score two more times before halftime. First on a
Kyle Stepka (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) 10-yard touchdown pass to
Hunter Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), and second on a
Mike Mensing (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) 20-yard touchdown pass to
Shane Finnegan (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS).
When halftime finally did roll around, the scoreboard read a big Saints lead of 33-0.
Second HalfThe Saints would add two more touchdowns in the second half. Mensing would throw his second touchdown pass of the game in the third quarter, this time to
James Fuerniss (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) to make the score 39-0, then the fourth CSS quarterback
Earl Butler (Baton Rouge, Louisiana/Broadmoor HS) would run the ball in from 29 yards out early in the fourth quarter to make the score 45-0.
The Saints would ride out the rest of the game on the ground en route to a 45-0 victory.

Mason Bloomquist (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS ) and
Alex Mangan (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) each had seven tackles to lead the defense.
Crown LeadersJosh Edlund ran for 72 yards. Trey Peace had five receptions for 65 yards. Chris Strange and Jalen Phoenix each had 10 tackles.
