Saints Overpower Northland in Home Win

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's basketball defeated Northland College 84-36 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup.
 
St. Scholastica found its touch offensively in a dominating first half of basketball against the LumberJills. CSS scored 52 points in half shooting 18-for-31 from the field and 7-for-8 from 3-point range.
 
The Saints were also active on defense recording eight steals and scoring 22 points of off turnovers.
 
The LumberJills struggled offensively in the opening half managing only 12 points while going 3-for-19 from the field.
 
Northland regrouped in the second half scoring 24 points and also forced eight steals including six from Briana Tody.
 
Alison Blackford led the LumberJills in scoring with 16 points with 11 points coming in the second half.
 
The Saints continued their efficient play on offense into the second half scoring 32 points. St. Scholastica controlled the glass throughout the game outrebounding Northland 41-to-26.
 
CSS held an advantage in points in the paint (22-to-10) and bench scoring (41-to-3).
 
Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) led the St. Scholastica with 20 points and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) added 12 points and Jenna Langer (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) recorded 11 points and six rebounds.
 
The Saints will look to extend their winning streak to three games on Friday when they host the University of Minnesota-Morris in the Reif Gym at 5:30 p.m.
