csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as No. 22 Wartburg College (Iowa) made a first half goal stand up in a 1-0 decision over the Saints in a NCAA Division III Tournament first round game at the Wartburg Soccer Field
The ActionThe Knights earned a pair of corner kicks early, but could not get a shot off.
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS ) than directed a ball towards the Wartburg net that was misplayed by the goalkeeper, which resulted in a CSS corner 11 minutes in, but no shot resulted.
The Saints got five shots off in the first half, but none of which would be on goal. Wartburg broke through in the 22
nd minute and Alyssa Hewitt crossed a ball to the far post that was headed into the net by Nicole Adair to make it 1-0. The Knights managed only three shots in the first half and two were on goal.
The Saints came out aggressive in the second half putting three shots on goal in the first eight minutes. After that initial push by the Saints, Wartburg came on the attack and hit a crossbar and a post midway through the half.
CSS had a couple of chances with 15 minutes to go in regulation, but Wartburg goalkeeper Beth Crow made two saves and preserved the shutout as the Knights advanced with a 1-0 victory.
The NumbersWartburg out-shot the Saints 13-10, but both teams had five shots on goal.
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) had four saves for the Saints, while Crow stopped all five for the Knights.
