DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team ended its regular season on a high note as it dominated Crown College Saturday afternoon at the Reif Gymnasium, winning by a score of 3-0.

The Saints got ahead early in the first set of the match, scoring seven points out of the first eight. Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) made some key contributions to the early going, as she recorded three kills out of the first seven points. St. Scholastica kept up the pace for the remainder of the set, getting a couple kills from Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) and Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) along the way to close out set one with a commanding 25-6 victory.

Emily Bounds (Hill City, Minn./Hill City HS) and company started set two the same way as set one, padding an early lead and not looking back. The Saints found themselves up 12-2 halfway through the set after a couple kills from Bounds as well as a couple aces from Morrin. The set never got any better for Crown, as they could only muster out six more points before falling to St. Scholastica in set two, 25-8.

The third set would be the last of the day, as well as the closest of the day. Crown came out with some fire and took ahold of a 3-1 lead to start of the set. The Saints wouldn't let the three-set sweep slip away, however, as they battled back into the set and tied it 8-8. After the tie the set started to even out, as both teams started to score in runs. The score was still tied at 13-13 before the Saints finally started to pull away. Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) had a big set, recording four kills and leading the Saints to a 25-18 victory.

The Saints were led by Morrin, who led the team in kills (9), aces (2), blocks (2), and digs (13) on the night. Emily Bounds (Hill City, Minn./Hill City HS) also found her stride, notching seven kills of her own in the match. Emily Kessler (Blackberry, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) also recorded 23 assists.

The Saints close out the regular season with a record of 15-12 (5-3 UMAC), while Crown finishes 6-22 (1-7 UMAC).
