BUFFALO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team used its depth to capture its seventh straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo Heights Golf Course.
Meet ResultsWhile CSS did not have a finisher in the top three overall, it did have the 4
th, 6
th, and 7
th place finishers, while preseason favorite, University of Wisconsin-Superior had three runners finish in the top five overall. That gave UWS the edge with two scoring runners remaining for each team.
Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) finished fourth for St. Scholastica with a time of 26:55.4 seconds, while
Luke McKenzie (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) and
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) battled all the way to the end finishing just 0.3 seconds apart. McKenzie narrowly edged out Gallagher for the sixth spot with a time of 27:33.2, while Gallagher finished with a time of 27:33.5.
CSS'
Tim Dunstan (Dollar Bay, Mich./Dollar Bay HS) then came in with a time of 28:32.5 overall, good enough for 12
th place. Dunstan narrowly missed finishing 11
th by just 0.1 seconds being edged out by Grey Davis of Martin Luther College. St. Scholastica had its final scoring runner come across in
Easton Foss (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) with a 14th place spot, finishing in 28:42.7. With CSS posting a score of 43, UWS needed its final two runners to place 15th and 18th or anywhere 15th thru 17th to defeat the Saints. That did not happen, as Superior's fourth and fifth finishers came in 19th and 20th to clinch the title for CSS.
Adam Wallenta (Eagan, Minn./Farmington HS) and
Josh Trosen (Hackensack, Minn./Nevis HS) rounded out the top finishers for the Saints, finishing 17
th and 22
nd overall. Lawson, McKenzie, Gallagher, Dunstan and Foss all earn All-UMAC accolades for finishing in the top 15 overall. Lawson earns the honors for the fourth time in his career, McKenzie a third time, Gallagher a second time, While Dunstan and Foss for the first time in their careers.
UW-Superior came in second with 48 points and Martin Luther College was third with 69 points.
Up NextThe next race for the Saints will be the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships in Pella, Iowa. That race is set to take off on November 14
