Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Bethany Lutheran

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica volleyball team took care of Bethany Lutheran College on Homecoming Saturday, winning the match with a clean 3-0 sweep at the Reif Gym with 365 in attendance.
 
The Action
The Saints took control early with seven straight points and led 11-3 at one point. The Vikings got as close as six before the Saints closed it out winning 25-15. The second set was tighter until midway through the set when CSS recorded eight of 10 points and went on to take a two set lead 25-18. The Saints had another 7-0 run in the third set to close out the match amongst alums and CSS Hall of Fame inductees 25-14.

Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) had 11 kills to pace the Saints. Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) added nine kills and Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) had seven. Kirsten Eaton (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) recorded 13 assists and Emil Jansen added 12. Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) led the way with 17 digs. Belden and Nikki Kienzle (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) both led the team with three blocks apiece. 
 
St. Scholastica now has an 11-7 record (2-1 in the conference) and have won five of its last seven contests. 
 
Up Next
The Saints will travel to Superior Wednesday to take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior and will look to post their second win this season against their rival across the border. The action starts at 7 p.m.
