DUBUQUE, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The University of Dubuque outscored the St. Scholastica women's basketball team 48-26 in the first half on its way to an 87-73 victory Friday.
 
The Spartans (6-5) scored the first six points of the game and never relinquished the lead. Dubuque then went on an 8-0 run to take an 11-point lead. The margin grew to as high as 23 with the Spartans up 48-26 at the break.
 
Dubuque controlled the paint in the first half, outscoring the Saints 28-10. The Spartans also had an 11-2 edge in points off turnovers.
 
The Spartan lead grew to 28 in the second half, but the Saints would cut that margin down to 14 at the end of the game as Dubuque came away with an 87-73 victory.
 
The Saints shot 36-percent for the game, while Dubuque finished at 47 percent. CSS made 10, 3-point field goals, seven of which coming in the second half. The Saints were also 17-for-20 from the free throw line, while the Spartans were 21-of-31.
 
Three Saints scored in double-figures, led by Jenna Langer (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) off the bench with 12 points and a team-high five rebounds. Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 11 points and Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) added 10 points. Four Spartans scored in double-figures led by Brittany Collier with a game-high 16.
 
The Saints (2-7) return home for the first time since November 25th when they host Finlandia University (Mich.) Monday night at the Reif Gymnasium. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
