Saints Fall to St. Norbert in the Semis Again

(csssaints.com) – For the second straight year, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team saw its season ended by St. Norbert College as the Green Knights prevailed 3-2 Friday night in the semifinals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) Slaats Cup Tournament.

The first period went scoreless with the Saints having a slight edge in shots at 9-8. The lone goal of the second period would be scored by the Green Knights one minute and 42 seconds into the period as Jillian Kostek made it 1-0 St. Norbert after two periods.

The Saints tied the contest early in the third period as Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) scored one minute and 40 seconds in to make it 1-1. Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) and Brenna Smith (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) were credited with the assists.

However, St. Norbert re-took the lead midway through the third on a Tarraneh Dadger tally to make it 2-1. The Green Knights added a power-play goal with 3:33 left to make it 3-1.

CSS's Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored on the power-play with an extra attacker with 40 seconds left to make it 3-2. Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) had the assists. The Saints would get one more shot on net, but St. Norbert survived by a score of 3-2.

Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 33 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Kaley Gibson had 32 saves in the victory for the Green Knights. St. Norbert moves on to face Lake Forest College in the Slaats Cup Championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m.

The Saints (15-8-3) say goodbye to its first-ever senior class and recruiting class. The seven seniors built the foundation of the CSS Women's Hockey program and led it to postseason appearances the past three seasons, including semifinal contests the last two seasons.
