Box Score MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – Behind 20 points from
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)), the St. Scholastica women's basketball team defeated North Central University 80-62 Friday evening.
North Central kept it tight early with five ties in the first nine minutes. The Saints then went on an 11-0 run to go up by seven with nine minutes left in the half. After the Rams got it back down to two, CSS went on an 11-1 run to distance itself. CSS led 48-36 at the half.
The Saints shot 59 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, while the Rams were 43 percent. The CSS bench had a 12-1 scoring edge over the North Central bench. Frase had 14 first half points.
The St. Scholastica lead remained in double-digits the entire second half as the Rams got it only to 10 on a pair of occasions. The margin got as high as 20 towards the end of the contest before the Saints prevailed 80-62.
Frase led four Saints in double-figures with 20 points.
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) added 13 points, while
Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) and
Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) each poured in 10 points. Leading the Rams was Jamie High with 17 points.
The Saints were 19-of-24 from the free throw line and finished at 48 percent from the floor for the game. The victory was also the 10th in conference play this season, matching a program-high for UMAC wins in a season (2011-12).
The Saints (15-9, 10-3) will play the University of Northwestern in the regular season finale and UMAC Game of the Week tomorrow in St. Paul. A win can give the Saints a potential No. 2 seed in next week's UMAC Tournament, while a loss could drop them down to No. 4. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
