PREVIEW: Women's Hoops Closes Regular Season this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team will finish the regular season this weekend and the only thing up in the air is what seed the Saints will have entering next week's UMAC Tournament.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 14-9 (9-3 UMAC) 
Head Coach: Stacy Deadrick
- The Saints split their games last weekend with a win against Crown on Friday, but lost to first-place Minnesota Morris on Saturday.
- Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) had a great game on Senior Night against Morris, going off for 22 points. Frase has been starting to turn it on lately, scoring in double figures in eight of the last 10 games. She also is shooting 48 percent from the field, which is fourth in the UMAC.
- Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) has also been playing well lately, scoring in double figures in six of the last seven games. She is shooting 48 percent from the floor, which is third in the conference.
- Frase leads the Saints' balanced offensive attack with 11 points a game, with Hovick and Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) right behind with 10.5 a game.
- Sorenson-Giffrow leads the conference in 3-point percentage at 42.7 percent. Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) is also shooting the ball well from deep at a rate of 39 percent, which is third in the conference.
- With two wins this weekend, the Saints can set a program record with 11 UMAC wins in a season.
- The Saints go into this weekend tied for second place in the conference with Northwestern and Martin Luther. They can finish anywhere from second thru fourth.

North Central University Rams
Record: 8-13 (3-9 UMAC)
Head Coach: Jeff Grenell
- The Rams were swept last weekend as they lost to Martin Luther on Friday and then Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.
- Jorie Grenell and Jamie High lead the Rams offensively, averaging 16.4 and 14.2 points per game respectively. Grenell is first in the conference in scoring and High is fifth.
- High also averages a team-high 10 rebounds a game, which is good for third in the conference.
- The Rams have already been eliminated from playoff contention this season.
Series History: (CSS is 22-1 vs. North Central)
- The Saints won the first matchup this season with a 91-65 win in the Reif.
- The Saints have won the last four games against the Rams.

University of Northwestern Eagles
Record: 17-6 (9-3 UMAC)
Head Coach: Aaron Kahl
- The Eagles won both of their games last weekend over Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.
- Mollie Sir was recently named the UMAC Player of the Week after her performance last weekend. Sir averaged 19.0 points per game with an additional average of four rebounds and four assists per contest in UNW's victories last Friday and Saturday. Eight of her 11 made baskets in the Eagles' two games were from outside the 3-point arc. She has been averaging 15.1 points a game this season, which is third in the conference, while also shooting 38 percent from long range, which is fourth in the league.
- Chanel Madson and Jessica Fife are also key contributors to the Eagles' offense, averaging 14.6 and 12.3 points respectively. Madson's 14.6 average is fourth in the UMAC.
- Fife also leads the team in rebounding at 9.6 boards a game (fourth in UMAC) and field goal percentage at 48.7 percent (second in UMAC).
- Northwestern goes into the weekend tied for the second spot in the UMAC with CSS and Martin Luther.
Series History: (CSS is 41-33 vs. Northwestern)
- The Saints won their first game against the Eagles in a thrilling 87-86 overtime win in the Reif.
