Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell 4-2 Saturday to Lake Forest College (Ill.) in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) contest.
Melissa Paluch started off the scoring for the Foresters in the eighth minute of the first period. The Saints evened the score minutes later when
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) lit the lamp assisted by
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall).
Paluch gave the Foresters its go-ahead goal on a power play in the fourth minute of the second period. The Foresters went on to score two more goals in the period. Holly Lesperance found the back of the net a little over a minute later and Greeneway registered the Foresters fourth goal two minutes after that to make it 4-1. The three goals were scored in a span of three minutes and 28 seconds.
The Saints tried to get back in it in the third period when Waidacher assisted
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) for her third goal of the season. However, that is where it ended as the Foresters prevailed 4-2.
Saints goaltender
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) saw 38 shots tonight and stopped 34 in the loss. Stacey Dierking had 23 saves for the Foresters. The Saints were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Foresters were 1-for-2 on the power play.
The CSS loss sets up a three-way tie for first place in the league with Adrian, CSS and Lake Forest all with 20 points.
The Saints (11-6-3, 9-3-2 NCHA) will host Concordia (Wis.) and Marian (Wis.) next weekend at Mars Lakeview Arena. Tune into to Saints Sports Net to watch the action live.
