Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St Scholastica women's basketball team lit-up the court in a 91-65 win over North Central University Saturday afternoon in the Reif Gymnasium.
After struggling with turnovers in the first minutes of the game, the Saints took the lead at the 16:19 marker and continued to build their lead throughout the rest of the half. With 7:20 left in the half, the Saints had secured a 20-point lead.
The Rams scored on two jumpers and some free throws in the final minutes to leave the Saints ahead 43-30 at halftime.
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) led the Saints in the first half with 10 points apiece.
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) added eight points of her own. For the Rams, Jamie High led with 11 points and Jorie Grenell chipped in eight.
The Saints ended the half shooting 55.2 percent from the field and an impressive 55.6 percent from outside the arc.
The second half started with much of the same as the Saints continued to build their lead. Midway through the half the Saints used a 17-4 run to add to its lead and eventually win 91-65.
The Saints kept up the good shooting finishing at 59.3 percent from the field and kept up the impressive shooting from the 3-point line at 55.6 percent. They also had 11 more rebounds that North Central at the end of the game.
Every Saint got to step foot on the court with nine players scoring. Hovick and Frase continued to lead the Saints with 18 and 14 points apiece. Huber finished with 13 points and
Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) added 10 points.
Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) had a team-high eight assists. North Central was led by High with 19 points and Grenell with 18 points.
North Central (7-9, 2-5 UMAC) went 16-for-17 from the free-throw line, but couldn't keep up with the Saints' 10 3-pointers for the night.
The Saints (11-7, 6-1 UMAC) are next in action on Tuesday at Northland College with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
