Women's Basketball Can't Get Past Lions

Notables:
-Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) scored 11 points for CSS shooting 5-of-9 from the field and added eight rebounds.
-The Saints outrebounded Finlandia 53 to 41 overall
-Julie Daavettila scored had a double-double for the Lions with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
-The 17-point defeat matches the worst loss vs. Finlandia in program history (1979)

HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Saturday afternoon where it was defeated 66-49 by Finlandia University.

The Saints never led in the game as the Lions scored the first six points and led 12-2 five minutes into the contest. CSS got the margin within four with less than four minutes to go in the first half, but that is as close as it would get.
 
Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) led St. Scholastica in scoring in the loss. Sorenson-Giffrow shot 5-of-15 from the field while shooting 2-of-9 from beyond the arc for a total of 12 points. She also had seven defensive rebounds, two offensive boards, and two assists. Teammate Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) followed suit in scoring in the double digits. Brennan was 5-of-9 shooting and 1-of-2 in 3-point attempts to tally 11 points. She had eight rebounds in the game.
 
The Saints shot 44 percent from the floor in the first half before dropping down to a 22 percent in the second half of play. Overall, CSS's shooting percentage was 32 percent. St. Scholastica was 4-of-12 from the free throw line and went 2-of-6 in each half. The Saints outrebounded the Lions 53 to 41 and had six steals in Saturday's game.
 
Julia Daavettila led the scoring for the Lions with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals. Following her was teammate Marissa Burke with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Finlandia shot 37 percent from the field and was 11-of-24 from the line.

 
After a little break for Christmas, the Saints take a road trip to Tennessee on December 29th to face Kenyon College (Ohio). Tipoff will be at 4 p.m. (ET).
