HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team picked up another win against Finlandia University on Saturday by a 4-0 score.
The game started with a quiet first period in which neither team scoring. Saints goalie
Kristen Hunt (Winnipeg, Manitoba/West Kildonan) had six saves in the first twenty minutes of the game. The Lions' goalie Taylor Gustafson also had six saves against the Saints in the first period.
St. Scholastica fired up in the second period.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored the first goal on a power play midway through the period. She was assisted by
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) and
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)). A few minutes later,
Katie Josephson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) added another goal for the Saints. She was assisted by
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and
Brenna Smith (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS). Hunt only had one save in the second period, while Gustafson had 11 saves and allowed two goals for the Lions.
The momentum continued in the third period for the Saints.
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) scored for the Saints just over five minutes into the period. She was assisted by Johnston who had two assists on the night.
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) scored a late goal for the Saints.
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) and
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) gave Broman a hand with the Saints fourth and final goal. Hunt had five saves during the final period to bring her total saves up to 12 on the night. Gustafson had 13 saves while allowing two goals. The Lions' goaltender had 30 saves and allowed four goals on Saturday.
The Saints improve their overall record to 4-0-0. Finlandia dropped its record to 0-4.
St. Scholastica's next game is this Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. against St. Norbert College and can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
