Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) became the first St. Scholastica men's cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, placing 95
th out of 280 runners in a program record time of 25:19.2.
The previous 8km program record was held by Nick Mangan, who posted a time of 25:28 at the 2010 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational.
Lawson who set a personal-best time at last week's NCAA Central Region Championships to qualify for today's national meet, beat Mangan's time by nine seconds to finish 95
th. With 280 runners in the field, Lawson finished in the top 34 percent of the field in his first effort.
Grant Wintheiser of St. Olaf College won the individual title with a time of 23:44.9. North Central College (Ill.) won the team title with 130 points. St. Olaf was second with 143 points and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was third with 188 points.
