Notables-Lawson, the defending individual champ, led for most of the race, but finished fourth-McKenzie, Lawson, Gallagher and Trosen earn All-UMAC honors-Seven Saints finished in the top 20-First UMAC meet, hosted by CSS since 2007
HERMANTOWN, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team won its sixth straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship on Saturday, beating second place Martin Luther College by nine points at Stebner Park.
CSS had four runners finish in the top nine and seven in the top 20. Defending champion
Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) was in front for a majority of the race and had a sizable lead 6km into run, but he would be overtaken by Bethany Lutheran College's Owen Richardson and Martin Luther College's Grey Davis in the final mile.
Richardson and Davis sprinted toward the finish line with Richardson taking the individual title with a time of 26:57. Lawson and teammate
Luke McKenzie (Taylors Falls, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) finished together with McKenzie taking third with a time of 27:36.1 and Lawson fourth at 27:36.9.
Another CSS runner,
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS), came home in fifth posting a time of 27:45.6.
Josh Trosen (Hackensack, Minn./Nevis HS) finished ninth overall with a time of 28:35.2. McKenzie, Lawson, Gallagher and Trosen all earn All-UMAC accolades for finishing in the top 12.
Just missing all-conference laurels was
Tim Dunstan (Dollar Bay, Mich./Dollar Bay HS) in 13
th, but he was the last runner to score for the Saints and ultimately clinch the title for St. Scholastica. Dunstan had a time of 29:05.3.
The Saints finished with 34 points and Martin Luther had 43 points. Bethany Lutheran came in third with 79 points.
St. Scholastica will run next at the NCAA Central Region Championships in Pella, Iowa on Saturday, November 15
th. The men's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
