DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica Saints women's soccer team took care of business on senior day at Saints Field as CSS overpowered UMAC foe North Central 5-0 on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The Saints came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, outshooting North Central by a 21-0 margin. The seniors were quickly represented on the stat sheet as Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) assisted on the first of many Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) goals in the fourth minute. Mitchell then tallied her second assist in the seventh minute, this time to junior Kate Burley (Nowthen, Minn./St. Francis HS ). Not to be outdone, Kehtel would find the net three consecutive times thereafter. Her 20th minute goal came courtesy of a Jayln Britton assist, while her third goal of the day was assisted by both Britton and Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS). Kehtel added another score in the 32nd minute to give her four in the first half, burying the pass from Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ).
The Saints continued to put the pressure on the Ram defense in the second half, outshooting North Central 32-0 in the second half. CSS would not score in the half, but was in control of the game through the final whistle, as St. Scholastica cruised to a 5-0 victory.
In the losing effort for the Rams, keeper Taylor Patch made 23 saves, while keeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) did not have a save for CSS. The Saints honored seniors Amy Heilman (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS), Angie Toepper (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech), Jayln Britton, Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) before the contest for their dedication and contributions to the program throughout their respective careers.
The Saints look to improve upon a four game winning streak next weekend, as CSS wraps up the regular season on the road against UM-Morris next Friday at 3:15 p.m. and Martin Luther on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. With a win over UM-Morris, CSS would clinch the UMAC regular season crown and the top seed in the postseason tournament.
