Volleyball Finishes Weekend Perfect

Notables:
-Saints offense hot with 50 kills.
-Hortness led offense with 12 kills.
-Hortness and Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) each had four blocks
-Benusa with 23 digs lead defense
 
DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team won its second match of the weekend on Saturday in four sets against Bethany Lutheran College in Duluth.
 
Scholastica started the match out by dropping the first set by a score of 25-22 but fought right back from there. The Saints decisively claimed the second set 25-11 and didn't look back from there. The third set was determined by a 25-16 score and the match was sealed with a 25-19 victory for the Saints.
 
Jen Hortness (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) was hot for the Saints on Saturday with 12 kills and four blocks at the net. Following her was Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) with eight kills. Also with eight kills was Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)). Morrin also contributed three ace serves. Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) voiced her ability with seven kills, three ace serves, and three blocks for the Saints.
 
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) dug 23 times in the St. Scholastica win on Saturday. Following her was Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) with 17 digs in the match. Once again, Morrin played hot with 10 digs for the Saints.
 
The Saints improved their record to 14-12 overall and 8-3 in UMAC play.
 
Bethany Lutheran's offense was led by Amanna Berthusen with 13 kills and right behind her was Caitlin Decke with nine kills and one block. Defensively, Jessi Jurries spoke up with 22 digs and Emily Franzen had 19 digs in the defensive frenzy. Bethany Lutheran's record falls to 6-16 overall and is 5-5 in the conference.
 
The Saints next game is Wednesday against Northland College in Ashland. Game time is 7 p.m. in the Kendrigan Gymnasium.
