Women's Hockey Snaps Losing Streak

Box Score MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was out-shot 35-28 Friday evening, but a pair of Waidacher goals were the difference as the Saints ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Concordia University (Wis.).

The Saints, who had been shutout in each of their last three games, struck first as Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) scored on the power-play three minutes and 21 seconds into the contest. Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) had the assists. The Falcons out-shot the Saints 16-9 in the opening period.

Concordia knotted the game with a power-play of its own less than six minutes into the second period. Samantha Reitler found the back of the net for the Falcons.

A little over a minute later, Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) gave the Saints the lead again with an assist from Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) to make it 2-1 at the second intermission. Concordia had a 10-6 shot advantage in the second period.

With less than two minutes to play in the third, Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) put the game on ice with her fourth goal of the season as the Saints prevailed 3-1. Fischer again had the assist.

Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) made 34 saves to earn the victory for the Saints. Jennifer DeGeorge had 25 saves in the loss for the Falcons.

The Saints (10-5-2, 8-2-1 NCHA) and Falcons (6-11-0, 4-6-0 NCHA) will wrap up their series tomorrow with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
