Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The sixth-ranked St. Scholastica women's hockey team surrendered four goals in the final two minutes and 12 seconds as it fell at Marian University (Wis.) 5-2 on Saturday.
The lone goal of the first period was scored by CSS's
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) midway through the period.
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) each were credited with assists. The Saints out-shot the Sabres 12-7 in the period.
Marian scored the only goal of the second period as Nina Laurie netted one on the power-play to make it 1-1 at the second intermission.
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) gave the Saints a 2-1 lead with 8:35 left in the game. She was assisted by
Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)) and
Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)).
The Saints held the slim lead until Amanda Waigand found the back of the net with 2:12 remaining to tie the game at 2-2. One minute and six seconds later, Waigand again scored and gave the Sabres a 3-2 lead with an unassisted goal. Marian would add two more empty-net goals, including one by Waigand for the natural hat trick, to make the final score 5-2.
The Saints out-shot the Sabres 45-24 in the contest.
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 22 saves in the loss for the Saints. Ali Glazer had 43 saves in the win for Marian (4-8-1, 3-4-0 NCHA). This was St. Scholastica's first loss against Marian in program history.
The Saints (9-2-2, 7-2-1 NCHA) will be at home on Tuesday night when they welcome Bridge rival UW-Superior to Mars Lakeview Arena. The action is set to begin at 7 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
