Lawson Leads Saints Again at Griak

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team ran to a ninth place finish out of 26 teams at the 28th annual University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday.

The Saints finished with 296 points, edging Bridge Rival UW-Superior by 16 points. UW-Eau Claire won the meet with 69 points. UW-Oshkosh was second with 76 points and Bates College (Maine) was third with 83 points.

Sophomore Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) led the Saints for the second straight week with a time of 26:58.9 to finish in 27th overall. Fellow sophomore Luke McKenzie (Taylors Falls, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) was 43rd overall with a time of 27:35.7.

Senior Charlie Habermann (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) was the third Saint to cross the finish line in 53rd, posting a time of 27:49.6. Kelin Dunfee (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central HS) finished in 28:08.0, which was good enough for 65th overall. The final CSS runner to score was Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) in 108th place with a time of 29:19.5.

Brian Riley (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS) was seven seconds behind Gallagher in 111th and Ryan Soule (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) was 119th overall with a time of 29:42.0.

The Saints will split the team up next weekend as a portion will compete at the Blugold Invitational on Friday, hosted by UW-Eau Claire. That race is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Others will compete on Saturday at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Hanover, Ind. That race is scheduled to start at Noon (ET).
