Men’s Cross Country Picks Up Win in Season Opener

GREEN BAY, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team prevailed over host, St. Norbert College, at the season-opening Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday.

The Saints finished with 48 points, while the Green Knights finished with 70 points. Carroll University (Wis.) was third with 105 points and Lawrence University (Wis.) fourth with 111 points.

CSS had three runners place in the top five overall. Luke McKenzie (Taylors Falls, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS), who led the Saints at this race a year ago, led the squad again this season with a third place finish at 20:54.9 seconds. He was eight seconds off the winners' pace.

Charlie Habermann (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) finished fourth overall at 21:01.3 and Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) was three seconds behind him at 21:04.9 to place fifth.

Kelin Dunfee (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central HS) was 11th overall in his first collegiate cross country race. Dunfee, who has skied and ran track & field the last three seasons for the Saints, posted a time of 21:40.6. The final Saint to score was freshman Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS), who was 25th overall with a time of 22:19.3.

The Saints will be in action next at the Northland College Invitational on Saturday, September 14th.
