Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team needed just a tie in Saturday's second game of the NCHA O'Brien Quarterfinals to advance, but it did more than tie, it swept third-seeded Lake Forest College by scoring two third period goals to rally and win 2-1.
After a scoreless first period that saw Lake Forest out-shoot the Saints 11-6, the Foresters scored their first goal of the weekend just over three minutes into the second period on a Maeve Connelly goal. The Foresters (15-7-4) held that 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
CSS equalized five minutes into the third period when
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) scored to make it 1-1.
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) had the assist. Then with 4:10 left in regulation,
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) netted the game-winner with another assist from Rebeck to make the final score 2-1.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) was outstanding in net once again for the Saints, stopping 32 shots to help CSS advance. Stacey Dierking had 28 saves in the loss for the Foresters. The loss for Lake Forest marked the first time this season they had lost when leading after two periods. (12-0-3).
The Saints (14-9-4) advance to the O'Brien Cup Semifinals next Friday where they will face fifth-seeded St. Norbert College in the semifinals on Friday at 3:05 p.m. Both semifinal games will take place at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as well as the championship game on Saturday. The other semifinal will pit the host Falcons against seventh-seeded UW-Stevens Point.
