Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey completed the weekend sweep of Marian University winning game two by a score of 4-2 in the Saints' final regular season Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) contest Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.
In period one, neither team was able to find the net as the teams headed into the first intermission tied up 0-0. For the period, the Saints were able to get 13 shots on net compared to just 10 for the Sabres.
Period two was full of goals as CSS would get on the board first just 3:29 into the period with a power play goal from
Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)).
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) would assist on the goal. The Saints would score just 16 seconds later as
Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)) would score an even-strength goal with assists going to
Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)) and
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS).
The Saints scoring attack was not done as just 17 seconds after Cojocar's goal,
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) would tally her own even-strength goal with assists going to Jordan Klimek and
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)). Marian would finally get on the scoreboard at the 7:54 mark with a goal by Brittany Syms.
The teams would skate into the second intermission with the Saints leading 3-1. CSS would hold a 26-18 shot advantage thru two periods.
The final period saw Marian (3-20-2, 2-16-2 NCHA) score a short-handed goal at the 10:16 mark to trail only 3-2. However, the Saints would bury a power play goal just a minute after the Sabre goal with Dodge tallying her second goal of the day.
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) and N. Waidacher would assist on the goal.
Neither team would be able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game as the Saints would come out victorious in the final regular season game, winning 4-2.
Amanda Alexander stopped 39 shots for the Sabres who were penalized five times for ten minutes. Marian was 0-for-3 on the power play on the afternoon.
The Saints held a 47-27 advantage in the faceoff circle. Saints goalie
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) stopped 18 shots on the night. CSS was penalized three times for six minutes. The Saints were 2-for-4 on the power play on the afternoon.
St. Scholastica (12-9-4, 9-8-3 NCHA) will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NCHA O'Brien Cup. The Saints will either play Lake Forest College or Adrian College depending on the final seeds which will be finalized after tomorrow's final results in the NCHA.
