Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored seven goals in the final two periods, including five in the third to defeat Marian University (Wis.) 7-2 Friday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Saints got their first goal when
Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) found the net less than four minutes into the second period.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) and
Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) were credited with the assists.
N. Waidacher then was on the receiving end of a Dodge pass and scored her 15th goal on the power-play with 6:09 remaining in the period. CSS would out-shoot the Sabres 16-4 in the second frame.
Marian cut the lead in half two minutes and 31 seconds into the third period on a Megan Sesing-Gomoll power-play. The Saints got that goal right back 37 seconds later as
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) scored to make it 3-1.
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored her first goal of the period and third of the season with 7:12 remaining to make it 4-1 Saints.
Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) and M. Waidacher had the assists.
After Marian responded with a power-play goal, the Saints poured it on, scoring three goals in a one minute and 43 second span.
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) got the scoring started with 4:02 remaining. N. Waidacher had the assist. Johnston then scored her second goal of the period 13 seconds later with M. Waidacher on the assist.
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) capped the scoring with 2:21 left on the clock to make the final score 7-2. Klimek and Esse had the assists.
CSS had a 50-17 shot advantage on Marian.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) made 15 saves to earn the win for the Saints, while Ali Galzer had 43 saves in the loss for the Sabres.
The Saints (11-9-4, 8-8-3 NCHA) and Sabres (3-19-2, 2-15-2 NCHA) will wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena. It will be Senior Day for the Saints as they will honor White and Dodge. The puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
