Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team saw Freshman
Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) pour in 26 points and grab eight rebounds to lift the Saints over a tough North Central University Rams squad by a score of 78-63 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action Friday night in the Reif Gymnasium.
Both teams had a slow start to the game as the score would only be 14-7 with eight minutes gone by in the game. CSS would go on a 7-2 run in the next minute to lead 21-9. The Saints would extend the lead to as much as 24 points and would go into the break leading 43-21.
The second half saw the Rams crawl back into the game to only trail by 10 points, 69-59, with about 3:30 left in the game. CSS would never let the game get in reach in the final minutes and would win 78-63.
NCU (6-17, 3-10 UMAC) was led by Jorie Grenell with 16 points. Jamie High added 13 points and 11 boards as well. Two other Ram players would reach double figures on the night.
The Rams finished the game shooting 32-percent from the field, 27-percent from beyond the arc, and 70-percent from the free-throw line. NCU would commit 19 turnovers, but grab 14 steals.
CSS was led by Schellbach with 26 points, eight boards, three steals, and two assists. Schellbach was 12-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) chipped in 17 points and five rebounds. No other Saints player eclipsed double digits.
Holly Peterson (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) did grab 12 rebounds to lead the Saints who held a 48-31 advantage in the rebound department.
The Saints would finish the game shooting 46-percent from the field, 15-percent from beyond the arc, and 73-percent from the free-throw line.
CSS had 34-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 23-7 advantage in bench points.
St. Scholastica (11-13, 8-5 UMAC) will host Northwestern College tomorrow afternoon in the regular season finale here at the Reif Gymnasium. Tomorrow will be Senior Day as the Saints will farewell to
