Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored three third period goals in the span of two minutes and 40 seconds to break a 3-3 tie on its way to a 6-3 victory on Friday night against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The Blugolds got the scoring started six minutes into the first period on a Nikki Kothenbeutel goal. The Saints tied it up two minutes later on a
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) goal.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) and
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) had the assists.
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) gave CSS the lead 17 seconds later with Fischer getting the assist. The Saints outshot the Blugolds 16-2 in the first period.
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) gave St. Scholastica a 3-1 lead midway through the second period.
Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) was credited with the assist. Eau Claire got a goal back with 6:23 left in the second on a Hadley Cookson tally.
Cookson scored again less than three minutes into the third period to tie the contest at 3-3. CSS broke the tie midway through the third period when
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) scored on the power-play. Fischer earned her second assist of the game.
Fischer was not done yet as she added her second goal of the game two minutes later to extend the lead to 5-3. Logergren and
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) were credited with the assists. The final goal of the game came 35 seconds after that when Dodge scored with
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) getting the assist as the final was 6-3.
CSS outshot UW-Eau Claire 42-13 for the game.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) made 10 saves to earn the win for the Saints. Paige Turner had 35 saves in the loss for the Blugolds.
The Saints (10-7-3, 7-6-2 NCHA) and Blugolds (6-11-3, 5-8-2 NCHA) will wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. It can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
