Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After leading with seven minutes to play, the eighth-ranked St. Scholastica women's hockey team surrendered two goals, including the game-winner with 29 seconds in a 3-2 loss to Adrian College (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) began the scoring for the Saints in the seventh minute of the first period. Waidacher was assisted by
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)).
With less than two minutes left in the period Adrian's Kelsey Kusch found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. She was assisted by Kristin Lewicki and Devyn Fitzhenry.
At the end of the first period the Saints'
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) saved seven shots and the Bulldogs' Jade Walsh stopped nine shots.
At 9:08 of the second Nina gave CSS the lead again, this time on the power-play. She was assisted by her sister
Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)). It was the only goal of the period.
With 6:52 remaining in the third period Kusch scored the game-tying goal for the Bulldogs and her 11th goal of the season.
The game-winning goal was scored with 29 seconds left in the game and on a Bulldog power-play. Kaylyn Schroka and Hannah McGowan assisted Sarah Shureb to gain the late goal and lift the Bulldogs 3-2 over the Saints.
The Saints (8-1-2, 6-1-1 NCHA) had 10 penalties and were 1-for-6 on the power-play. After scoring five power-play goals last night, the Saints only managed one goal despite two major penalties by the Bulldogs. Hartfiel stopped 27 shots in the loss.
Adrian (7-3-0, 5-3-0 NCHA) had nine penalties, including two 10-minute game misconducts, two 5-minute majors, and was 1-for-7 on the power-play. Jade Walsh had 22 saves in the win for the Bulldogs.
That was the final game for the Saints for the 2013 calendar year as they will next play on January 10th and 11th at Marian University (Wis.).
