PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Travels to Eau Claire Thursday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team will face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thursday night at Zorn Arena. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

St. Scholastica Saints

- The Saints are coming off their season-opening weekend tournament at Saint Benedict where they lost a tough game to Macalester 57-53 and then dropped their second game to the host team, St. Ben's, by a score of 76-57.
- CSS played well in the first half of both games, going into the locker room with the score knotted up in both games.
- Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had a good weekend with 10 points against Macalester and then followed that up with a 16 point performance against St. Ben's. Hovick would be named to the All-Tournament team.
- Hovick is also leading the team in rebounds and shooting percentage early on this season.
- The Saints defense has been pretty active, forcing 18.5 turnovers per game.

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds
Record: 0-2 (0-0 WIAC)
Head Coach: Tonja Englund
- The Blugolds are also looking for their first win as they hosted their own tournament last weekend losing their first game to Carroll University (Wis.) 65-49 and losing their next game 70-62 to Luther College (Iowa).
- The Blugolds were picked to finish fifth in the nine-team WIAC.
- Teenie Lichtfuss is leading the team with 15 points a game and also grabbing six rebounds per contest.
- The Blugolds are struggling from the free throw line shooting 48.6 percent from the charity stripe, as well as struggling from deep, shooting only 19.4 percent from the 3-point line.
- Eau Claire has been having trouble with turnovers as well, coughing it up and average of 19.5 a game.
Series History: (CSS is 1-10 vs. UW-Eau Claire)
- The last time these two teams met was in the 2011-2012 season, with CSS dropping its home opener to the Blugolds 68-58.
