Saints Bounce Back, Defeat Blugolds

Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by a score of 4-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Saints started the scoring off midway through the first period as they converted on a power play. The goal was scored by Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and assisted by Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)).

The second period saw the Saints kill off a five-on-three power play for the Blugolds five minutes into the period. Later on with about four minutes left in the period Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored on an assist from her younger sister, Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)). The Saints would then have a power play in the last two minutes of the period, but were unable to convert on it.

About seven minutes into the third period the Saints extended their lead to 3-0 with another power play goal, this one coming from Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) off of assists by Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)). A few minutes later Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) would notch her second goal of the game to seal the victory for the Saints. Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) assisted on the goal as well as Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) to give herself three assists in the win.

Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) got the shutout for the Saints while stopping 24 shots. Eau Claire's Paige Turner had 29 saves for the Blugolds.

The Saints have their home opener next Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena as they host Finlandia with the face-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
