NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's cross country team won its fifth consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship on Saturday and sophomore
Chris Lawson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) won the individual title at the Brightwood Hills Golf Course.
The Saints had three runners place in the top four and four in the top seven to capture the championship. CSS won the meet with 28 points. The 28 points are fewest at the UMAC Championship meet in program history.
After finishing up as runner-up his freshman season, Lawson captured the conference title on Saturday with a winning time of 26:37.8. He beat the rest of the field by 38 seconds. Lawson is the third CSS male runner to win the conference championship since the 1999 season. (Nick Mangan-2010, Chris Rubesch-2007)
Luke McKenzie (Taylors Falls, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) came in third overall, posting a time of 27:22.1.
Charlie Habermann (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) was a second back of McKenzie in fourth.
Kelin Dunfee (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central HS) finished seventh overall with a time of 28:10.6. Lawson, McKenzie, Habermann and Dunfee earn All-UMAC honors for placing in the top 12 overall.
The final Saint to score was
Jacob Gallagher (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon HS) in 13th place with a time of 28:44.3. Gallagher edged teammate
Ryan Soule (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), who was 14th with a time of 28:48.5.
Martin Luther College and the University of Minnesota Morris tied for second with 75 points. Bethany Lutheran College was fourth with 95 points. North Central University was fifth with 118 points.
The Saints will next run at the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships on Saturday, November 16th at St. Olaf College. The race begins at 12:15 p.m.
