Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored on the power-play with just over six minutes to go in the third period to lift the St. Scholastica women's hockey team past ninth-ranked St. Norbert College 3-2 Friday night.
The Green Knights started the scoring halfway into the first period as Lauren Roethlisberger found the back of the net, assisted by Ali Parker and Allie Patrick.
The Saints scored two of the three goals in the second period. Around the nine minute mark of the period Waidacher lit the lamp for her first goal of the night, equaling the score 1-1. Waidacher was assisted by
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)).
About four minutes later, the Saints extended their lead to 2-1 as
Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) scored her first of the season as she was assisted by
Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)).
Six minutes into the third period the Green Knights responded with a power play goal by Rachel Koppang to tie the game at 2-2. Koppang was assisted by Myranda Hayes and Andrea Senne.
With 6:13 left in the third period, Waidacher teamed up with
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) on the power play to score the game-winning goal.
Freshman
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) saved 36 of 38 shots compared to Kaley Gibson of St. Norbert, who stopped 23 of 26 shots. Both teams finished 1-for-3 on the power-play.
The Saints (4-0-1, 3-0-0 NCHA) will play against St. Norbert (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NCHA) again tomorrow at 4 p.m.
