DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team will face its toughest conference road test up to this point on Saturday when it meets the University of Northwestern for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Reynolds Field.

Alec French (Isanti, Minn./St. Francis HS) was recently named UMAC Defensive Player of the Week after racking up 12 tackles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown against MacMurray. French leads the defense with 39 tackles.

Jake Jensen (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS) scored twice for the Saints in the win which saw the Saints rush for 383 total yards. Jensen averages 119.4 yards per game which ranks him second in the UMAC.
-CSS has outrushed opponents 1385-627 on the year for an average of 277 yards per game.
-The Saints offense has gone 17-for-21 in the red zone with 14 of those scores going for touchdowns.
-The Saints defense has held UMAC opponents to 269.6 yards per game and the Saints lead the UMAC with 18 total sacks.
-CSS has outscored opponents 82-19 combined in the second and third quarters.
-After the victory against MacMurray, the senior class is now tied with the most wins for a class at 29 total in their four year span.

-Northwestern is coming off of a 50-45 shootout victory over Minnesota Morris.
-The Eagles sit in fourth place in the conference standings.
-QB Jacob Fletcher has gone 94-for-166 with 1160 passing yards and nine touchdowns and just four interceptions.
-Josh Sinnen and Zac Cash have combined to score all seven rushing touchdowns for the Eagles who have racked up 705 total yards on the ground.
-The wide receiving corps for Northwestern average 232 yards per game and has amassed nine touchdowns on the year.
-Cameron Cox leads a stout Eagle defense with 38 total tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss. The Eagle rush defense is first in the UMAC allowing just 73 yards per game.
-UNW is first in the UMAC in interceptions with eight total on the year.
-The Eagles are the only UMAC team to defeat the Saints the last two-plus seasons.
Series History: (CSS is 2-3 vs. Northwestern)
The Eagles and Saints played a deadlocked game last year at Ordean Stadium with the winner controlling their destiny for the UMAC title. UNW (formerly NWC) scored on the opening kickoff only to see the Saints score on the opening kickoff of the second half with a 90 yard return from Cory Gebhard (St. Croix Falls, Wis./St. Croix Falls HS). Mike Theismann (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) added two field goals, one in the first half and another in the second half. Northwestern was able to punch the ball in from a yard out with 5:37 left in the contest to win the game 14-13. |
