Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team had five players score in double figures on the night, led by
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) with 20 points, on its way to an 86-54 victory over the LumberJills of Northland College.
The Saints took the lead early on a 14-3 run that lasted the first six minutes of the game. It took nearly to the halfway point of the first half before the Saints defense allowed the 'Jills into double digits.
Frase had 12 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Saints into the locker room with a 44-25 lead. The Saints shot 55 percent as a team in the half.
Frase started the second half the same we she started and ended the first half with two points to pad the lead for the Saints. The CSS lead would stay around 20 for most of the second half before slowly creeping up and a 3-pointer from
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) gave the Saints a 30-point lead with four minutes left to play in regulation.
CSS used runs of 7-0 halfway through the second half and closed out the game on a 6-0 run after going 6-for-6 on free throws to win the game by a final score of 86-54. As a team the Saints shot 54 percent from the field and were 7-for-13 from behind the arc. The Saints outscored the 'Jills 42-18 in the paint.
Frase led all players with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) tied a career-high with15 points and six rebounds.
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS),
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) all scored 11 points for the Saints. Huber and Heisler combined for 6-for-10 from behind the arc.
The Saints (8-11, 5-3 UMAC) will be back at the Reif this weekend as they play host to Bethany Lutheran on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and come back the next day for a 3 p.m. tip-off against Martin Luther. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
