The CSS women's hockey team couldn't find the net in a 1-0 loss to the Lake Forest College Foresters at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints take just one point away from Illinois after tying the Foresters (12-6-2, 11-4-1 NCHA) 2-2 in last night's game.
The entire game was a defensive battle including the first period when the St. Scholastica's
Rachel Borchardt (Willow River, Minn./Willow River HS ) and Lake Forest's Stacey Dierking made a combined 18 saves to keep the teams scoreless through one.
The game's only goal came 5:43 into the second period when Morgan Pope scored on a Jessica Dare assist to give the Foresters 1-0 lead. The rest of the second period was scoreless and the score remained 1-0 going into the second intermission.
The third period proved to be the same as the first as the goaltenders for both teams combined for 17 saves and the Foresters eked out a 1-0 victory over the Saints.
Borchardt made an outstanding 36 saves in just her second game and first week back on the team. Her record on the season is now 0-1-1.
The Saints (11-6-4, 9-5-2 NCHA) will be back on the ice next weekend as they stay on the road in Wisconsin to take on the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons (7-11-2, 5-9-1 NCHA) at the Ozaukee Ice Center in Mequon.
