Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team would not be denied on the road and escaped with 64-60 victory over the Northwestern College Eagles Friday night.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead before the Saints came back to take the lead 18-13 with 10:38 to go in the first half. The Eagles would storm back to end the half on an 11-3 run to make it 28-28 going into the break.
The second half was just as close as both teams traded baskets throughout the half with neither team taking a lead larger than four points until midway through the half when the Saints were finally able to string together a 10-0 run to put them up 51-41 with 6:24 left in the game.
Northwestern tried to stop the CSS attack in the final minutes, but were unable to come back as the Saints would go on to win 64-60.
Northwestern (6-14, 3-6 UMAC) had four players in double figures, with Chanel Madson leading the way with 17 points. The Eagles would finish the game shooting 46-percent from the field, 31-percent from beyond the arc, and 38-percent from the charity stripe.
The Eagles would commit 16 turnovers and grab 31 total rebounds.
The Saints were led by
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS), each scoring 15 points.
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) added 10 points.
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) was a force in the paint grabbing 10 rebounds, the most of any player on both teams.
The Saints would shoot 50-percent from the field, 70-percent from beyond the arc, and 50-percent from the charity stripe. The Saints would commit one less turnover, 15total, and grab the same rebounds as the Eagles with 31.
