Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was unable to erase a ten point first-half deficit and fell to the Minnesota-Morris Cougars 77-54 Friday night in Morris.
The game opened with each teams trading baskets until the 7:33 mark when Morris took the lead 21-20. During the stretch previous to the 7:33 mark the Saints and Cougars never controlled a lead larger than four points.
Morris would go on a 12-0 run to finish the half leading 40-30 heading into the break.
The second half was all Morris as the Cougars would extend the lead to as large as 25 points. The Saints would only cut the lead as low as 12 points with 9:52 remaining in the ball game. The Cougars would finish strong similar to the first half and would defeat the Saints 77-54.
Minnesota-Morris (16-8, 11-2 UMAC) was led by Emily Mehr who led all scorers dropping 31 total points. Two other Cougars would score in double figures, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cougars would finish the game shooting 39-percent from the field, 40-percent from beyond the arc, and 89-percent from the free-throw line. The Cougars would collect 39 rebounds and commit 14 turnovers.
The Saints were led by
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) who had a team-high 12 points.
Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) added 10 points while
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) added eight points.
The Saints would finish shooting 36-percent from the field, 29-percent from beyond the arc, and 77-percent from the charity stripe. The Saints would grab 33 total rebounds and commit 20 turnovers.
With the loss, the Saints will be the No. 3 seed in next weekend's conference tournament. The Saints will either play Martin Luther or Minnesota-Morris.
The Saints (11-13, 9-4 UMAC) will travel to Presentation College tomorrow to finish off the regular season. That game is scheduled to start 3 pm local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from the game.
