Frase’s Career-High 20 Points leads Women’s Basketball to Another Win

Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team outscored Finlandia University (Mich.) 42-20 in the first half to win its third in a row by a final of 78-56 on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints were playing the Lions for the second time in a week as they defeated Finlandia at home last Saturday 93-49.

Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) hit the first two buckets of the game on her way to a career-high 20 points. CSS led early 9-2. Midway through the first half, the Saints went on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 25-10. The margin was 12 when CSS outscored the Lions 12-2 in the final five minutes of the first half to go into the locker room with a 42-20 lead.

The Saints scored 15 points off of 18 Finlandia turnovers in the first half. CSS shot 46 percent from the field, while holding the Lions to 25 percent shooting.

St. Scholastica opened the second half on an 11-1 run to take a 32-point lead. The margin got as high as 35 before the Lions chipped away late for a final score of 78-56.

The Saints shot 46 percent for the game and Lions were at 33 percent. CSS outscored the Lions in the paint 22-14.

Behind Frase's game-high 20 points, Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) had 14 points off the bench. Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) added 13 points. Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) had a team-high nine rebounds. Emma Cole had 11 points to lead Finlandia (2-5).

The Saints (3-5) will be back in action next Friday when they remain in the Twin Ports and travel across the bridge to face rival University of Wisconsin-Superior. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
