Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team used a five-goal second period to upset 10
th-ranked UW-Stevens Point by a score of 7-3 Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena in a NCHA series matchup.
The opening period saw CSS points leader
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) net her sixth goal of the year with assists going to
Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) and
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall). The Saints were outshot, however, 8-7 in the first period.
The second period was owned by the Saints with a goal by
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) just 35 seconds into the period.
Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) and N. Waidacher assisted on the goal. UW-Stevens Point scored two unanswered goals just a 1:40 apart to knot it up at 2-2 with just about 14 minutes left in the period.
The Saints then used a four goal barrage with a power-play goal from
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) assisted by Jordan Klimek, an unassisted goal by
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall), and both Waidacher sisters scoring a goal apiece to close out the period leading 6-2.
The Pointers chipped into the Saints' lead with a goal four minutes into the final period, but then N. Waidacher sealed the upset bid with a hat-trick sealing goal with just less than three minutes left in the game.
The Saints would go onto upset the Pointers 7-3.
The Pointers had 26 total shots on the night and were 2-for-4 on the power-play. The two goalies for the Pointers had a combined 29 total saves on the night.
The Saints were led by N. Waidacher with three goals and her sister Monika was right behind her with two goals.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) was solid in net for the Saints, stopping 23 shots on the night.
The Saints outshot the Pointers 36-23 and also led 30-26 in the faceoff circle.
