Adrian Completes Weekend Sweep of Women’s Hockey

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Much like the previous night, despite scoring the opening goal of the game, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team would fall to ninth-ranked Adrian College 8-4 Saturday night.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead when Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) netted her first of the game just 1:23 into the game. Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) had the assist for the Saints.

Adrian would go onto score the next six goals of the game, including four more in the first. Two of the four goals coming in the first period for the Bulldogs came by way of the power-play. 

The Bulldogs would net two more before Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) scored her second goal of the game just over 12 minutes into the second period to make the score 6-2 in favor of the visitors. Her sister, Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)), and Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) tallied the assists on the goal.

Adrian would move the deficit back to five goals 33 seconds later with Kelsey Kusch's third goal of the game. At the end of the second period the score was 7-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) completed the hat trick less then four minutes into the final period on the power-play with the assists coming from Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) and Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall). Waidacher's third goal made the score 7-3. 

Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) netted her fifth goal of the year later in the period with Blair and sister Monika assisting on the power play goal to bring the score within three at 7-4.

Adrian finished the scoring for the night with an unassisted goal coming with less then four minutes to go in the game for a final score of 8-4.

Brittany Zeches had 28 saves in the win for Adrian, while Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) picked up the loss.

The Saints (3-3-2) will be back at home next weekend when UW-Stevens Point comes to town for a two-game series. The Saints and Pointers face-off Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
