Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, eventually cruising to a 93-49 victory over the Finlandia University Lions Saturday afternoon in the Reif Gymnasium.
CSS opened the game on a 9-3 run and never really were contested after the opening minutes of the game. The Saints slowly added to their lead throughout the first half and led at the break 44-23.
The second half was much of the same as the Saints used every player on the bench to easily cruise to a 93-49 victory. It was the Saints' first victory of the year.
Finlandia (1-3) was led by Brierra Ruska with 11 points. No other Lion players would eclipse double digits in the points column.
The Lions would finish the game shooting 33-percent from the field, 22-percent from beyond the arc, and 74-percent from the free-throw line. The Lions would grab 40 total rebounds and only steal the ball four times. The big stat of the game for both teams was 39 turnovers for the Lions.
CSS was led by
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) added 18 points and six rebounds.
Holly Peterson (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) provided a spark defensively and chipped in on the offensive side of the ball with 10 points and seven rebounds. Ten other Saints were able to reach the scoring column.
The Saints would finish the game shooting 44-percent from the field, 41-percent from beyond the arc, and 69-percent from the free-throw line.
The Saints would grab 38 total rebounds, steal the ball 21 times, and committed 12 turnovers.
St. Scholastica (1-5) will host North Central University this coming Tuesday at the Reif Gymnasium with tip scheduled for 6 p.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com for live broadcast of that game.
